Gale Force

Pure Warnham-Woburn. Owned in conjuction with Murray Nelson. Very quiet 27 point 2 year old purchased from West Bush. Very even and multi-pointed young sire. A top all rounder for trophy and velvet. Very fertile. Incredibly quiet. We were pleasantly surprised to cut G.F. 8.2kgSA at 4 years.

Wormwood

Wormwood was one of the outstanding Clive sons in our 2007 sale. His antlers were flawless and matched alongside Thomas Albert’s, there was little difference. Strong, clean, exceptionally thick, with very correct tynes.

Stan
Stan was Lot 2 Stanfield in 2005 and is similar breeding to Colin, but Alexei on the dam side. Stan has a very strong rack of antlers and I’m sure he will preform once he has settled in here in Canterbury.
We have used quite a bit of Maximillion semen here and the progeny coming through are very satisfying.
Stan has returned to Stanfield.

Arad

Arad is a typical gentle giant of a sire stag resulting from Heinrich V crossed with a Romany daughter with ’44’ in the background. With Heinrich V fully represented within the hind herd, Arad has only been used sparingly.
Dam 97003 weaned Arad at 55kg. Her second son weaned at 76 1/3 and third a daughter weaned at 63kg 25/2. There are no problems reaching the spring schedule with these Easterns. 97003 has left a huge legacy within the stud. Her son’s and grandsons will play a major part in the future. Incidentally, we weighed the sister on 1/11 at under 12 months of age. Weight 113kg, produced on grass/clover diet grazing at Murray Nelson’s property in Ashburton. Arad has cut a very tidy and correct 4.5kg SAII velvet at 3yrs.
Arad tends to cure any temperament problems within the hinds he is mated with.

Highlander
Although Highlander has a very modest set of antlers himself, his son’s were so impressive that renowned trophy breeeder Donald Griegg bought him. Highlander produced the exceptionally antlered Lots 35 and 40 in 2009.
We rate Highlander’s dam 92107 as the perfect meat producing Eastern hind. Naturally bred fawns weaned before the 1st March consistantly weigh between 65 and 72 kgs. Two previous sons have gone to stud.

Astramax

Pure Woburn. Owned in conjustion with Murray Nelson. Very special young Woburn stag. Excellent antler style for both trophy and velvet. Very even and corrrect with heavy long tops. Very fertile. Astramax has made a huge jump in 2008 cutting a more than respectable 11.6kg SA. It should be noted that these sire stags at CIRD only received one bucket of barley between the seven of them once a day and nothing else but pasture.

Sonny Bill

Sonny Bill has all the attributes of an Eastern Meat Producing sire. He is incredibly quiet and just keeps converting feed into body mass. He is a prime example of what Canterbury Imported Red Deer Stud produces when AI’ing its superior hinds with industry leaders. C.I.R.D. has used semen from most pure Eastern sires of merit from the leading studs. In my opinion, the daughters of Heinrich V, and my own Maximillion daughters are the best this country has seen, and the resulting physical dimensions, temperament and weight gains of Sonny Bill say it all. EBV 25.76 12mth
Hi John
“Xcell Breeding Services Ltd has had the pleasure in being able to collect semen from ‘Sonny Bill’, an outstanding bodied stag with an excellent temperament, being one of the quietest stags we have dealt with; a trait that I believe adds value to his already high BV for venison production”
